Produced over four series during a roughly 19-year run, the reference 3970 was made in yellow, pink and white gold as well as platinum, with production believed to exceed 4,000 pieces.
The present example Patek Philippe ref. 3970E in yellow gold bearing a 875’XXX movement is part of the early second series. Featuring not only a first series dial, but also a first series calendar disk. This series adopted a solid screw-down caseback and was designated ref. 3970E (étanche, French for waterproof). Offered in attractive condition, the hallmarks stamped on the caseback are deep and crisp. The watch comes with accessories including duplicate Certificate of Origin, setting pin, and additional sapphire screw-down case back.
