Cartier CPCP Tank Chinoise Skeleton Limited Edition of 100

One of Cartier's most distinctive designs, the Tank, was reimagined in 1922 with the creation of the Tank Chinoise. Though square at first, the case design has been elongated over the years to follow a more rectangular structure, reminiscent of the porticos of Chinese (and East Asian) temples. 

Indeed, designed with the symmetry and architecture of temples in mind, the protruding brancards are decorated here with black lacquer, with accents of red snaking through the dial design. This is particularly evocative of traditional Chinese window designs, with the impressive openwork dial and skeletonised movement beautifully framing a view into the watch's mechanical heart.

Part of the Collection Privé Cartier Paris (CPCP), the yellow gold model present here, Ref. WHTA0016, was limited to only 100 pieces and further highlights both its exclusivity and rarity.
