Cartier's Tank à Guichets is a design marvel with a history that dates back to jazz clubs of the late 1920s, famously accompanying Duke Ellington on the wrist through swinging sets.
This pared down version of Cartier's most famous watch model highlights the mechanical marvel of the jump hour watch. With an aperture at 12 o'clock for the hour window, and a crescent shaped dragging hour display just below it, the dial is stripped of any other detail. This re-edition of the Tank à Guichets, Ref. WGTA0236, which is part of Cartier's Privé Collection, is cased in platinum and helps to give the watch its industrial look. And yet, it still has that very Cartier touch with the contrast from the red accents on the scales.
Though the design is nearly 100 years old, it still remains so modern and distinctive - the simplicity of the dial harks back to difficult times during the Great Depression, but the touch of Art Deco truly brings the watch its vivacity and emphasises the true creative spirit this watch exhibits.
The present example comes to us in pristine condition, accompanied by all of its accessories.
